The Premortal War in Heaven

The Premortal War in Heaven
The War Ends in Revelation 12:8–9
The war in heaven ended when the dragon and his angels “prevailed not” and they were cast down from Kolob to this earth.
Lucifer’s past defeat on Kolob foreshadows Satan’s future defeat at the Second Coming. (Rev 20:1–3)
The war in heaven on Kolob is like Armageddon on earth.
John describes Lucifer’s defeat during the war in heaven to confirm the certainty and manner of Satan’s defeat at Christ’s Second Coming. (Cf. JST Rev 12:1)
Satan’s defeat at the Second Coming can be seen through the lens of Lucifer’s defeat during the war in heaven.
Premortal Conditions After Lucifer Prevailed Not
Since Satan’s future defeat on earth reflects Lucifer’s premortal defeat on Kolob, the millennial conditions on earth after the Second Coming also reflect premortal conditions on Kolob after the war in heaven.
Victor L. Ludlow describes three foreshadows for the paradisiacal conditions of the millennium:
“The paradisiacal glory of the earth in its natural, physical state will parallel Eden, the garden of paradise; the millennial political and social order will compare with Zion, the city of Enoch; the personal reign of Christ will mirror his postresurrection righteous community established at Bountiful, the Nephite utopia founded in the temple courtyards.”
(Victor L. Ludlow, Principles and Practices of the Restored Gospel, 628)
Christ’s Reign After Satan Is Cast Down
Christ will reign on earth during the millennium as he did on Kolob after Satan was cast down.
With Satan gone, Christ’s light and glory returned to Kolob.
Elder Robert D. Hales observed:
“Light and darkness cannot occupy the same space at the same time. Where the light of Christ is found, the darkness of Lucifer, even Satan, must depart, defeated.”
(Robert D. Hales, Conference Report, “In Remembrance of Jesus,” October 1997, 34)

Kolob as the Pattern
When Lucifer rebelled and fell spiritually during the grand council, Kolob became a fallen world.
Spiritual darkness prevailed—mirroring this fallen earth after Adam’s fall.
Telestial conditions on this earth are the antitype for conditions on fallen Kolob.
When the war in heaven ended, Kolob was spiritually cleansed and regenerated to become like this regenerated earth at the Second Coming.
God gives us “a pattern in all things…that [we] may not be deceived, for Satan is abroad in the land.” (D&C 52:14)
Salvation Is Come
When Satan was cast down, John “heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation.” (Rev 12:10)
Salvation means different things depending on the context.
Fundamentally, however:
“Salvation means for a man to rise above his enemies, to conquer them.”
(Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, Vol. 2, 25)
In Revelation 12:10, salvation came to premortal spirits who kept their first estate.
For them, salvation means to conquer death, because their physical resurrection is guaranteed.
They are not guaranteed full salvation, which is synonymous with exaltation.
Full salvation comes only as they also keep their second estate. (Abr 3:25–26)
Such persons conquer both death and Satan again.
