The Birth and Rise of the Man Child

Revelation 12:5 Explained

The Birth of the Man Child in Revelation 12:5

In Revelation 12:1–2, John saw the sign of a pregnant woman. She represents the premortal church of God, which I discussed in my newsletter on October 23, 2025.
In Revelation 12:3–4, John saw the sign of a red dragon (Lucifer), whom I discussed in my newsletter on October 30, 2025. Lucifer is the source of pain to the premortal church (the woman) as she travails giving birth to a man child in Revelation 12:5.

The premortal grand council in heaven on Kolob is the time and place where these events occur. Their likenesses exist in earthly events involving Jesus Christ and His earthly church. Because these likenesses exist, many scholars believe these signs in heaven are earthly events — but they can’t explain how the earthly church could give birth to Jesus Christ. It didn’t.

However, in heaven — at the time of the grand council — the premortal church metaphorically gave birth to Jesus Christ (Jehovah), as the man child “who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron” (Revelation 12:5).

This symbolism means that during the grand council the Father chose Jehovah to be the Creator, Redeemer, and ruler of all nations. Nevertheless, until the members of the premortal church exercised their agency and right of common consent, Christ could not simply presume to take upon Himself the power and authority of these positions.

By the common consent of the premortal church membership, Christ was ordained to the highest position in the premortal church. The vote of the premortal church metaphorically gave birth to Christ as the ruler of all nations.

Christ is Caught Up to God and His Throne

In Revelation 12:5, “[Christ] was caught up unto God and his throne.”
This has a two-fold meaning:

  1. To be caught up to God means that Christ was elevated to Godhood.

  2. To be caught up to God’s throne also means that Christ was literally taken up from Kolob to the throne of God on His celestial residence.

This was necessary because Christ was a God, but Kolob had become spiritually unclean because of Lucifer’s fall and rebellion. Therefore, the Father and the Son could not remain on Kolob, just as they could not remain with Adam and Eve after Adam partook of the forbidden fruit and the earth became an unclean telestial world.

The Woman Takes Flight from Kolob

At the same time Christ was caught up to the throne of God, the woman representing the premortal church also “fled into the wilderness” where she was nurtured for 1260 Kolob years (JST Revelation 12:5).

This wilderness symbolizes God’s celestial residence. Members of the premortal church returned home to the place of their spirit birth and to the throne of God.

When this occurred:

  • The only spirits left on Kolob were Lucifer and his rebellious followers, and

  • The undecided (lukewarm) spirits who failed to commit to the cause of Lucifer or to Christ during the grand council.

When Christ and the premortal church were taken up from Kolob, they took with them the light and truth of the gospel. Kolob became a spiritually dark place in the likeness of this earth during the Great Apostasy, including the “Dark Ages.”

This apostasy in heaven lasted for 1260 Kolob years. Since one day on Kolob equals 1,000 earth years, the premortal apostasy on Kolob lasted 453.6 million years.
