Three Prophetic Events in the 2000-year Gap

(Daniel 9:26)

Understanding the Gap

The Seventy Weeks Prophecy (SWP) in Daniel 9:24-27 tells us much about the timing of Christ’s Second Coming. The SWP is broken down into three time periods that include seven weeks of seven years (49 years), and 62 weeks of seven years (434 years). The first two time periods of 69 weeks total add up to 483 years that end with the death of Christ in about 34 AD. After his death at the end of the 69th week, there is only one week of seven years to arrive at 490 years until the Second Coming.

Mathematicians will immediately recognize that this prophetic time doesn’t add up. If Christ died in 34 AD and we add just one more week of seven years we end up at 41 AD. This is far from the Second Coming that still lies in our future. This mathematical dilemma can only be resolved if there is a 2000-year gap (+/-) between the 69th and 70th weeks. The fundamental question about the timing of the Second Coming is whether 2000 years accurately reflect the time between the 69th and 70th weeks.

Symbolism and the Number 2000

The 2000-year gap isn’t just a random number that conveniently fits into the current signs of the times that reflect the near approach of the Second Coming. Symbolically speaking, the 2000-year gap is one part of the whole SWP that consists of four separate time periods. Therefore, we can be certain that the number 10 factors into the equation because it always represents one part of the whole. Check out my podcast from October 29, 2023, for more on numerology.

In the SWP, the number 10 is cubed (10x10x10) to give it a superlative quality reflected in the number 1000. The period of 2000 years for the gap is the product of 2x1000. In Biblical symbolism, the number two is one short of the perfect number three. This symbolically means that two (2) is an imperfect number that reflects evil and opposition. Thus, the 2000-year gap reflects a superlative period of great opposition and desolations against the Jews and Jerusalem. That’s the underlying message of the SWP, which states that “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city.” (Daniel 9:24)

Daniel 9:26 – Three Events in the Gap

After prophesying that the Messiah would be “cut off,” Daniel identified three prophetic events that would take place before the final “week”:

  1. The Destruction of Jerusalem (70 AD)
“The people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.”
Titus, prince of the Roman Empire, fulfilled this in 70 AD with the destruction of Jerusalem and its temple.

  2. A Flood of Apostasy
“The end thereof shall be with a flood.”

This may refer to the spiritual “flood” of apostasy following Christ’s death—particularly among the Jews, many of whom rejected the Messiah and await his future appearance at the Mount of Olives as his first coming.

  3. Desolations Determined
“Unto the end of the war desolations are determined.”
This phrase points forward to the 70th week—the seven-year period of tribulation (often equated with Armageddon), where desolations upon Jerusalem will reach their prophesied conclusion.

Doing the Math

So let’s do the math that takes us to the Second Coming according to the SWP. Assuming Christ was crucified in 34 AD, the 2000-year (+/-) gap takes us to the year 2034 AD until the start of the battle of Armageddon. The Second Coming will then follow at the end of the 70th week of seven years‒or about 2041 AD. Food for thought.
